I’m an undergraduate studying computational mathematics with multidisciplinary honors at UMass Amherst and conducting research on neural computation and artificial life at Amherst College under Lee Spector. Previously, I was a Research Engineer at UMass CICS and an AI Engineering Intern at a biotech startup. I’m interested in learning and intelligence in natural and artificial systems.

I also build ML systems and data infrastructure for nontechnical clients, and deploy on-chain algorithmic trading models. If this sounds relevant, let’s talk.

In my free time I enjoy snowboarding, listening to music, and spending time in nature.

Research

  1. Preprint

    Niko Lorantos, Lee Spector

    arXiv Preprint
We evolve populations of Lenia artificial life through intrinsic objectives to promote diversity, emergent complexity, and open-endedness.

  2. GPTP XXII

Lee Spector, Ryan Bahlous-Boldi, Paul Vander Vort, Niko Lorantos

Genetic Programming Theory & Practice XXII (In press)
We outline significant advancements in AI driven by evolution, particularly in neural architecture design and preference learning.

  3. Niko Lorantos

    Junior Seminar Final Paper
I investigate how complexity is preserved through compression using autoencoders as the subject of theoretical analysis.
